Onsite and Excess Soil Regulations (O.Reg. 406/19): Simplified
The province of Ontario estimates that approximately 25 million cubic meters of excess soil are excavated each year. While much of this soil can be safely reused, some may contain contaminants that pose risks to groundwater, surface water, and the surrounding environment. To address these concerns, Ontario introduced new regulations starting in 2021, with additional measures being phased in through 2025, ensuring safer and more sustainable soil management practices.
